Stability AI, an artificial intelligence (AI) company, has released an advanced version of its mainline text-to-image model called Stable Diffusion XL 1.0. This new version offers higher-resolution images and requires less processing power and fewer text prompts compared to its predecessor, making it more powerful and convenient for users.

Stable Diffusion is part of a growing trend where AI tools can generate various types of media including music, videos, and now images. It allows users to become artists by producing virtually any image they desire. The tool has gained popularity worldwide, and the upgrades in the latest version are expected to further increase its usage.

To compare and contrast the old and new versions of Stable Diffusion, users can access Stable Diffusion 0.9 at stablediffusionweb.com and try out SDXL 1.0 at clipdrop.co/stable-diffusion. Both versions are user-friendly, with users being able to enter a prompt and generate four images based on their request.

The key improvement in SDXL 1.0 lies in its image generation system. It consists of two parts: the base and refinement model. The base model creates initial samples, while the refiner enhances those samples into more detailed images. SDXL 1.0 has the largest parameter count of any open-access image model, utilizing a 3.5-billion-parameter base model and a 6.6-billion-parameter refiner. Despite its high parameter count, it performs well on consumer graphics cards with 8GB VRAM.

Emad Mostaque, CEO of Stability AI, stated that the new AI model requires significantly fewer images for fine-tuning compared to its predecessor. As few as five to 10 images can now be used to fine-tune the model quickly. Stability AI’s DreamStudio allows users to refine image generation by providing samples and limiting results with negative prompts, enabling a more in-depth teaching of the model.

Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 only needs short prompts due to the reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) stage that was carried out with the community and partners during the development of Stable Diffusion 0.9. Additionally, the new model is available on Amazon Web Service’s Bedrock and Safemaker.

Stability AI encourages users to try out the latest version of Stable Diffusion for free on their website and the Stable Diffusion Discord channel. The tool can also be added as an API on the Stability AI platform, allowing users to generate any desired image. However, it is important for users to adhere to copyright laws when using AI-generated images.

Stability AI has introduced Stable Diffusion XL 1.0, an advanced AI image generation model that produces higher-quality images with fewer prompts and less processing power compared to its predecessor. The tool is easy to use and allows users to create impressive images without artistic skills. While it offers many benefits, there are also risks associated with the use of AI image generation tools, including the potential for malicious individuals to create harmful content. Stability AI has taken measures to mitigate this risk. Other AI image generation tools are available, such as Midjourney, Canva, and Microsoft’s Bing.
