Modders Waste No Time Adding CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to Armored Core VI

In a continuing tradition of modders importing Carl Johnson from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas into various video games, it was only a matter of time before someone added CJ to FromSoftware’s latest game, Armored Core VI. Surprisingly, it took less than 24 hours for this feat to be accomplished.

Released on Friday, Armored Core VI marks the long-awaited return of FromSoftware’s mech franchise after a decade-long hiatus. The game has received positive reviews, with Ethan Gach from Kotaku describing it as a “sometimes messy” but “exhilarating and exhausting” experience that stands out in its unique gameplay and rewarding mechanics. However, as with any game, there’s always room for improvement.

Unlike previous entries in the Armored Core series, Armored Core VI doesn’t include CJ from Rockstar’s popular open-world game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Thankfully, modder and YouTuber Dropoff wasted no time and quickly made Grove Street’s own Carl Johnson playable in Armored Core VI. However, it should be noted that the result of seeing CJ flying around as a giant mech-like warrior may be disturbing and could potentially cause nightmares.

Adding CJ to games that don’t originally feature him has become a popular trend among modders in recent years. CJ has made appearances in games such as Zelda, Elden Ring, and the Resident Evil 2 remake, among others. One particularly unsettling example is when CJ was substituted for a cat in the game Stray, resulting in an even more nightmarish sight.

Unfortunately, the CJ mod for Armored Core VI is currently unavailable for download anywhere, including Dropoff’s Nexus mods page. So for now, players will have to settle for watching videos of CJ’s mech adventures. However, it’s likely that the mod will become available soon enough, allowing players to experience the exciting combination of CJ and giant tank robots in the skies of San Andreas.
