Solana developers are working on a solution to address the bug causing network congestion by mid-April.

Mert Mumtaz, the CEO of Helius Labs and a staunch supporter of Solana, announced this development on social media platform X. He mentioned that the patch is set to be deployed by April 15.

In recent weeks, Solana has experienced a surge in transaction failures. Analysts attribute these issues to the blockchain’s growing popularity and high network activity driven by automated bots seeking arbitrage opportunities.

Austin Federa, the head of strategy at Solana, acknowledged the challenges, stating, “Solana sees traffic and demand that no other network has ever come close to – it’s a stress test of the whole system. These are exactly the type of stress tests you cannot model in simulation, you have to just see how stuff works in prod and adapt.”

Mumtaz clarified that the ongoing network congestion is not due to a fundamental design flaw but an implementation issue, which is expected to be easier to rectify. He explained, “It is important to make this distinction because implementation errors are usually trivial – but design errors are generally serious and more fundamental.”

The bottleneck in the network is linked to Solana’s use of the QUIC networking protocol, specifically the “quin implementation of QUIC.”

While the fix is aimed for April 15, any additional challenges that arise during the process could prolong the timeline.

Mumtaz highlighted that aside from technical issues, Solana is also facing economic factors that are contributing to the current challenges.

As a result of the ongoing problems, several crypto projects on the Solana network have decided to delay their launches indefinitely.

Solana staking rewards platform Surge Finance postponed the release of its native token until further notice, waiting for “conditions to improve enough for transactions to succeed.” Real-world asset platform Sky Hause and identity platform myBID also delayed their launches due to the network congestion.

The cryptocurrency projects are monitoring the situation closely, with hope that the implementation of the fix will alleviate the network congestion and allow for smoother operations in the future.
