A British man, Idris Dayo Mustapha, has pleaded guilty to hacking into email and brokerage accounts in the Eastern District of New York. He stole more than $6 million from victims and now faces up to 20 years in prison. Mustapha and his co-conspirators accessed financial accounts illegally through phishing attacks, hacked into U.S. financial institutions’ servers, and stole confidential user data. They initiated wire transfers by impersonating victims, stole securities through brokerage accounts, and engaged in securities fraud. Mustapha also exploited romantic relationships online to set up “drop” accounts. In addition to his cybercriminal activities, Mustapha was part of an Afrobeat music group and recorded music under the name Drizzle Lomo. He studied Information Communication Technology at the University of Bradford in the UK.
