The Luzon grid was placed under a yellow alert by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Monday due to the unavailability of 21 power plants. A yellow alert is issued when there is an insufficient operating margin to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement. The grid operator announced that Luzon would be under yellow alert status from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. A total of 1,443.3 megawatts are unavailable in the region, with several plants on forced outage since 2023 and others operating at a derated capacity.
