The World App, the first native Worldcoin (WLD) wallet, has achieved a significant milestone by reaching 10 million users in less than 12 months since its launch. This wallet, compatible with World ID, is making self-custodial wallet services more accessible worldwide.

Launched in May 2023, the World App quickly gained popularity, with 4 million downloads by November. It now serves users in over 160 countries, with 2 million daily engagements and over 70 million transactions facilitated.

The app has solidified its position among the top self-custodial wallets globally, handling an average of 7.1 transactions per second.

Tiago Sada, Head of Product at TFH, expressed excitement about the achievement, emphasizing the positive impact it has had. He stated, “Reaching this milestone demonstrates the potential of making the fundamental technologies of Ethereum accessible and user-friendly. The World App represents our dedication to simplicity and functionality in the crypto domain.”

The World App aims to simplify crypto interactions by focusing on essential functions for Worldcoin and Ethereum users. It enables identity authentication with World ID, feeless global transactions, crypto token swaps, and access to Worldcoin Grants in various areas.

Accommodating a wide user base, supporting most mobile devices, offering gasless transactions, and providing 24/7 multilingual support, the app strives to make crypto more user-friendly.

Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, lauded the success of the World App as a gateway to further adoption and innovation within the Worldcoin ecosystem. He looks forward to the development of more wallets to cater to diverse user preferences, aligning with the community’s vision for increased decentralization and accessibility.

An example of the app’s impact can be seen in Kenya, where a user purchased a goat using Worldcoin, sparking support and donations from the crypto community that enabled the user to acquire more livestock.

Sada highlighted the transformative potential of cryptocurrency through such stories, stating, “Our vision is to enable similar empowering experiences on a global scale.”

With over 10 million users now utilizing the World App, TFH continues to showcase the vast possibilities of crypto in enhancing global economic engagement.

This development occurs amidst regulatory concerns regarding Worldcoin’s biometric data collection practices in various countries, including Kenya. Worldcoin has taken steps to address these concerns by making much of its code open-source, undergoing a security audit, and receiving praise from industry leaders.
