A consortium led by San Miguel Holdings Corp. (SMC) has announced plans to provide a larger resting lounge for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed his appreciation for the initiative, which aims to accommodate more OFWs at the airport. The OFW lounge at Terminal 3 has already served approximately 75,000 OFWs, or about 2,000 daily.

Romualdez praised SMC CEO Ramon Ang and his team for their commitment to providing a bigger space for the OFW lounge, which will be almost double the size of the current area. The expanded lounge is expected to be operational by the end of June this year and will have the capacity to accommodate around 200 migrant workers.

The initiative is part of a public-private partnership program for the rehabilitation and operation of Naia. The SMC consortium, along with other partners, including RMM Asian Logistics, Inc., RLW Aviation Development, Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., aims to improve the Naia complex and increase its annual passenger capacity from 32 million to 60 million.

Romualdez highlighted the consortium’s plans to enhance various areas of the airport, such as the runway, taxiway, ramp areas, and firefighting facility, to cater to the growing number of passengers using Naia.
