Luzon and Visayas Grids Under Yellow Alert, NGCP Says
MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the Luzon and Visayas grids will be placed under yellow alert for several hours on Tuesday.
According to the advisory, a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
In Luzon, the yellow alert is effective from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The peak demand for the region is expected to reach 13,902 megawatts (MW) while the available capacity is 14,950 MW.
The NGCP stated that several plants have been on forced outage since 2023, with 1 running on a derated capacity, resulting in 1,369.3 MW being unavailable to the grid. In the Visayas grid, the yellow alert will be in effect at various times throughout the day, with the peak demand estimated at 2,580 MW and available capacity at 2,881 MW.
The NGCP also reported that multiple plants in the Visayas grid are on forced outage or running on derated capacities, totaling 571.9 MW unavailable to the grid.
Last Monday, a yellow alert was also raised over the Luzon grid during specific time frames.
