The Luzon grid will be placed under yellow alert on Thursday afternoon, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In an advisory, the NGCP stated that the Luzon grid will be under yellow alert from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement, although it does not necessarily result in a power outage.
The current available capacity in Luzon is 15,115 megawatts, while the peak demand is 13,818 megawatts. However, twenty power plants are currently on forced outage, with a total of 1,369.3 megawatts unavailable to the grid. One power plant is also running on derated capacity.
This situation highlights the challenges facing the power sector in Luzon and underscores the importance of maintaining a stable and reliable power supply for the region.
