Tech giant Google has pledged to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines while also focusing on training over 100,000 children and parents on the responsible use of digital technology.
During a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Google’s Global Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Karan Bhatia announced the company’s commitment to assist MSMEs in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to help them thrive in a competitive environment.
Google has initiated programs with DTI, including providing Google Career Certificates (GCC) at DTI Negosyo Centers across the country. Additionally, Google has distributed 40,000 GCC scholarships to Filipino youths, jobseekers, MSMEs entrepreneurs, and civil servants.
Moreover, Google plans to train over 100,000 children and parents on the proper and responsible use of digital technology to address the increasing vulnerability to online crimes and scams.
The meeting between Marcos and Google executives followed a trilateral summit involving the Philippines, the United States, and Japan, where they discussed economic cooperation and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region. Jointly, they announced that trilateral maritime exercises would commence in 2025 to enhance security in the area.
