Three Tourist Cities in Brazil Embrace Bitcoin as Everyday Money

Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency, is making waves as a reliable and international store of value with a market value exceeding $1 trillion. In fact, Bitcoin’s market cap surpasses several national currencies, including the Russian ruble and Swiss franc.

The Lightning Network (LN), a solution aimed at enhancing Bitcoin’s scalability, is playing a crucial role in promoting the cryptocurrency as a payment method. LN is particularly popular in three tourist cities in Brazil: Jericoacoara, Rolante, and São Thomé das Letras.

These cities, located in different regions of Brazil, have seen an increase in Bitcoin usage thanks to local non-profit projects aimed at educating residents on the benefits of the cryptocurrency.

In São Thomé das Letras, a mystical city in Minas Gerais, the Mountain Bitcoin project has successfully encouraged dozens of local businesses to accept Bitcoin payments. Residents, including children, are embracing the digital currency with enthusiasm.

Jericoacoara, known as Praia do Bitcoin, has also embraced Bitcoin as a currency, thanks to the efforts of local Bitcoiner Fernando Motolese. LN integration has been instrumental in helping local businesses accept Bitcoin as a payment method.

In Rolante, a small city in southern Brazil, over 200 businesses now accept Bitcoin, thanks to the Bitcoin É Aqui project led by a local couple. LN is being used by the majority of merchants in the city to settle Bitcoin payments quickly and efficiently.

Brazil and other Latin American countries are witnessing a growing adoption of Bitcoin, driven by weak and inflationary national currencies. Projects like Praia Bitcoin, Montanha Bitcoin, and Bitcoin É Aqui are paving the way for Bitcoin to become a mainstream form of currency in the region.
