Tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with China’s Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Sunday, where Li assured Musk that China would always be open to foreign firms. Musk, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, arrived in China for his second trip in less than a year to the country, known as the world’s largest market for electric vehicles.
During their meeting, Li pledged to do more to support foreign firms, emphasizing China’s commitment to expanding market access and providing a better business environment for companies from around the world. Musk later expressed his honor at meeting with Li, highlighting their longstanding acquaintance.
Musk, who has extensive business interests in China, visited the Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai and discussed deepening cooperation with the country. His trip coincides with a price war among firms aiming to dominate the competitive EV market in China.
The visit is seen as a significant moment for Musk and Beijing, given the level of domestic competition and recent challenges faced by Tesla. Musk’s interest in China has drawn attention in the past, with President Joe Biden questioning his foreign connections.
