David Vonderhaar, the studio design director at Treyarch, has announced his departure from Activision after 18 years. Vonderhaar has been involved in the development of eight Call of Duty games since 2004. The announcement was made on his personal LinkedIn account, where he revealed that he has moved on to a new project at a different studio. While he did not provide specific details about the project, he expressed gratitude towards his former Treyarch colleagues and the passionate Call of Duty community.
Vonderhaar’s work on the Call of Duty franchise is closely associated with the Black Ops series, which has been a prominent part of the military shooter’s lineup since 2010. The most recent release in the series was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020.
In related news, Activision and Sledgehammer Games recently unveiled the title for the next Call of Duty game. The upcoming installment will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, distinguishing it from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 released in 2011. The new game is part of the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, which began in 2019.
