The Texas-based Cogdell Memorial Hospital was targeted by the Lorenz ransomware group, resulting in a security breach and data leak. The hospital announced the incident in early November and removed network connectivity while continuing to provide most routine services. The Lorenz group claimed responsibility for the breach and began uploading the stolen data. Healthcare organizations in the US continue to be prime targets for ransomware attacks, as evidenced by recent attacks on other hospitals. The LockBit, ALPHV/BlackCat, Rhysida, and other ransomware groups have also targeted various healthcare organizations, demanding ransom and stealing sensitive information. The prevalence of these attacks raises concerns about the cybersecurity of healthcare institutions and the safety of patient and employee data.
