The Luzon grid in the Philippines was placed under a yellow alert by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Monday due to the unavailability of 16 power plants. A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.

According to NGCP, the yellow alert was raised from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Luzon. Factors contributing to this alert include the deration of several power plants such as Masinloc 1, Masinloc 2, Calaca 2, and Ilijan, as well as the unavailability of Angat Main due to low water elevation.

Additionally, forced outages were reported in plants like Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. Co., Pagbilao 2, and Sual 1. Overall, 2,692.8 megawatts are unavailable in the region, with some plants running on derated capacities.

In contrast, NGCP stated that the Visayas and Mindanao grids are under normal conditions.
