The Luzon grid will be under a yellow alert again on Wednesday, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The yellow alert will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 5.
NGCP reported that the Luzon grid had an available capacity of 14,254 megawatts (MW), while peak demand was at 13,535 MW. Several power plants have been on forced outage since 2023, with others experiencing issues between January and May 2024, totaling 1,765.6MW unavailable to the grid.
The deration of Masinloc 1, Masinloc 2, and Ilijan A, along with the unavailability of Angat Main due to low water elevation, and the forced outage of Pagbilao 2 and San Lorenzo 50 plants were cited as factors for the yellow alert issuance.
Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao grids are operating under normal conditions.
