Numerous school districts in the U.S. have reported data breaches and cyberattacks following the holiday season. For example, Butte School District in Montana, Edmonds School District in Washington, Fullerton Joint Union High School District and Glendale Unified School District in California have all experienced data breaches. The Groveport Madison Schools in Ohio are also recovering from a ransomware incident. This attack caused damage to several Windows devices, security cameras, and printers, but the school was able to recover within a month.

In addition, cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler discovered millions of records left exposed by school security company Raptor Technologies. This exposed database contained sensitive information about students and emergency response plans. As a result, the Washington, D.C. public school system began notifying parents about the potential data breach involving Raptor Technologies.

Overall, these incidents demonstrate the ongoing vulnerability of schools to cyberattacks and data breaches, and the need for increased cybersecurity measures.
